The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Republic of Poland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen bilateral cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies, marking a significant step in advancing innovation-driven economic growth and strengthening digital collaboration between both countries. The agreement was signed yesterday on the sidelines of the ongoing World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The MoU builds on the growing relationship between Nigeria and Poland following the recent visit of H.E Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Affairs of the Republic of Poland, to Abuja, where he held bilateral discussions with the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani. The discussions underscored a shared commitment to leveraging digital technologies to drive economic transformation, strengthen innovation ecosystems, and create new opportunities for citizens and businesses in both countries.

Under the agreement, Nigeria and Poland will collaborate across areas of mutual interest, including digital transformation, AI, emerging technologies, innovation ecosystems, capacity building, knowledge exchange, and the development of policies and frameworks that promote responsible and inclusive digital growth. The partnership is also expected to encourage cooperation between government institutions, academia, startups, and the private sector in both countries.

Speaking on the significance of the agreement, Dr. Tijani said: “This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our belief that international partnerships are essential to unlocking the full potential of digital technologies. By bringing together Nigeria’s dynamic innovation ecosystem and Poland’s expertise in digital transformation and emerging technologies, we are creating new pathways for knowledge exchange, talent development, and innovation that will deliver tangible benefits for our people and contribute to a more inclusive global digital economy.”

The signing of the MoU further reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to international cooperation as it accelerates the implementation of its digital economy agenda under H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s Renewed Hope Agenda. By fostering strategic partnerships with countries such as Poland, Nigeria continues to position itself as a leading digital innovation hub in Africa while expanding opportunities for investment, skills development, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies for sustainable economic growth.

“This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our belief that international partnerships are essential to unlocking the full potential of digital technologies.
