#WeekInReview: Full Week Recap of Activities of the Honourable Minister, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani (Vol. 92)

HM NCC - Kano

INTRO

This week was a strong reflection of our commitment to building the critical infrastructure, institutional alignment, and international partnerships necessary to grow Nigeria’s digital economy. From commissioning West Africa’s largest Tier 3 Data Centre to reopening the vandalised Digital Industrial Park in Kano, to deepening strategic alignment across our Ministry, the focus remained clear — building an inclusive and innovation-driven economy for all Nigerians.

TIMELINE

Tuesday, July 1 – Strengthening Nigeria’s Digital Infrastructure

  • The Honourable Minister was special guest of honour at the official unveiling of MTN Nigeria’s Enterprise cloud Platform and launch of their Dabengwa Tier 3 Data Centre, the largest of its kind in West Africa. In his remarks at the event which took place in Lagos, he stated that the launch will go a long way in strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and driving homegrown innovation. It aligns directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of growing a $1trillion economy by unlocking productivity and powering enterprise.

Wednesday, July 2 – Commissioning the Renovated NCC Digital Industrial Park in Kano

  • On Wednesday, Dr. Tijani travelled to Kano to commission the newly renovated Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Digital Industrial Park. The facility, which was refurbished through the support of IHS Nigeria, was vandalised last August by protesters. The renovated Digital Industrial Park represents a new opportunity and a gateway for the young people of Kano State to access skills, resources and opportunities to shape their future and contribute to our innovation economy.

Thursday, July 3 – Internal Strategy Review and Agency Meetings

  • Back in Abuja, he had an extensive meeting with Directors and Management Staff of the Ministry to appraise performance and renew the team’s efforts towards achieving the goals and objectives outlined in our Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint document, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
  • Following this session, the Honourable Minister met separately with heads of agencies in the Ministry including Dr. Aminu Maina, Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner/CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC); and Yomi Arowosafe, Secretary, Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).

Friday, July 4 – Brazil for BRICS Summit

  • On Friday, he travelled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled to commence on July 6.

BLUEPRINT ALIGNMENT

This week’s activities align with two key pillars of our Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint:

  • Infrastructure: The launch of MTN’s Tier 3 Data Centre and the commissioning of the renovated NCC Digital Industrial Park represent significant strides in strengthening the digital backbone of our economy. These developments ensure that Nigerian innovators and businesses have access to reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure necessary to drive productivity and digital inclusion.
  • Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Capital: The revitalised NCC Digital Industrial Park in Kano is a powerful demonstration of how physical infrastructure can serve as a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship. Positioned to become a hub for tech talent in Northern Nigeria, the Park is equipped to provide the resources, networks, and environment needed to nurture the next generation of digital builders.
