#WeekInReview: Full Week Recap of Activities of the Honourable Minister, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani (Vol. 85)

HM Enugu Tech Fest

INTRO

A key message that Dr. Tijani took away from his trip to Enugu last week was that ‘Our Tomorrow is Here’. Having spent a significant part of this past week with young people across Nigeria, he can attest to the fact that indeed, tomorrow is here. The energy, passion and excitement demonstrated in Enugu, Ogun and Katsina is contagious and as he reflects on the week, he is excited about the possibilities for our nation, powered by the youth. Talent is clearly everywhere, and the Honourable Minister is committed to ensuring that we take opportunity to as many people as we can.

TIMELINE

Monday, May 5 – Strategic Planning and National Council

  • He started the week in a meeting with Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) ahead of the commissioning of the agency’s South East Zonal Office scheduled to take place later in the week.
  • Following this meeting, he attended the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

 

Tuesday, May 6 – Data Protection and Digital Collaboration

  • The Honourable Minister was the keynote speaker at the 8th edition of the Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA-RAPDP) Conference and Annual General Meeting 2025 hosted by the National Data protection Commission (NDPC). At the event themed ‘Balancing Innovation in Africa: Data Protection and Privacy in Emerging Technologies’, he highlighted the importance of strong data protection frameworks that support innovation while ensuring individual rights are safeguarded. 
  • Following this event, he travelled to Lagos to attend this year’s Huawei Day Nigeria and launch of Huawei Nigeria Innovation Centre, where partners and ICT talents can explore latest technologies and co-create tailored solutions across key sectors.

 

Wednesday, May 7 – Deepening Innovation in Enugu

  • On Wednesday, Dr. Tijani travelled to Enugu where he joined H.E Governor Peter Mbah in declaring open the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) South East Zonal Office. In his address, he noted that the Zonal Office commissioning marked a strategic move under the Renewed Hope Agenda of H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to decentralize opportunities and unlock Nigeria’s digital economy across all regions. He also commended the Executive Governor of Enugu State for his sterling efforts in positioning the state as a leading frontier for innovation within a short space of time.
  • While in Enugu, the Honourable Minister attended the opening ceremony of Enugu Tech Fest 2025, an inspiring community of young innovators, developers, and entrepreneurs in the South East state. In his remarks at the well-attended event, he highlighted our Ministry’s initiatives such as the Nigeria Startup Portal, Innovation Hubs Strategy, and the National Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill (NDEB) – policies that he strongly believes will form the foundation for startups to thrive.

 

Thursday, May 8 – Giving Back and Driving Innovation in Ogun

  • He visited his alma mater, Anglican High School in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he interacted with staff and students of the school, and highlighted the importance of focus and determination as a prerequisite for success.  It was a chance to give back to the institution that played a part in shaping his life as he launched the Bosun Tijani Fellowship, an annual programme that will support 17 students with: ₦100,000 each towards their tuition, brand-new laptop, and school uniforms. Dr. Tijani also adopted the school’s science laboratory and one-storey classroom block to be fully renovated and equipped with modern furniture and smart boards for effective learning.
  • While in Ogun State, he was hosted at a roundtable session by the Ogun Tech Community, aimed at deepening collaboration between government, the tech ecosystem, and local innovators towards driving inclusive digital growth. Themed, ‘Ogun Tech Forward Innovation & Startups Roundtable’, the session brought together startup founders, tech leaders, and policymakers in Abeokuta to explore ways of leveraging technology to accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
  • He was later hosted to a warm reception by former students and classmates at Anglican High School. The intimate event provided an opportunity to share experiences and reflect on the values of excellence, resilience, and hard work that was instilled in them as young students in the school.  

BLUEPRINT ALIGNMENT

Last week, the Honourable Minister’s engagements aligned strongly with the Knowledge and Infrastructure pillars of our Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint document. From the commissioning of NITDA’s South East Zonal Office in Enugu to the launch of the Bosun Tijani Fellowship in Ogun State and engagements with the 3MTT community in Katsina, he demonstrated the government’s commitment to decentralising opportunity, investing in digital skills, and building resilient infrastructure across Nigeria. These efforts reflect Dr. Tijani’s resolve to ensure that innovation and growth are inclusive and far-reaching, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Friday, May 9 – Media Engagements and Strategic Partnerships

  • Back in Abuja, he met with representatives of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to discuss the potential of hosting a global CEO Roundtable event in Nigeria later this year. 
  • Next were separate press interview sessions with Forbes Magazine and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), both focused on highlighting the progress of the Honourable Minister’s strategic initiatives ahead of H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year anniversary in office.
  • He then received in his office the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adeladan Rafiu Olarinre (CIPSMN) who recently assumed duty.

 

Saturday, May 10 – Youth Empowerment in Katsina

  • Dr. Tijani was in Katsina on Saturday to attend the 4th edition of the Katsina Youth Opportunity Summit themed ‘Leveraging Opportunities: Building a Future-Ready Youth’. In his remarks, he emphasised the impact of our Ministry’s capacity building initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT), with the goal of positioning Nigeria as a net-exporter of talent. The event was organised by Hajiya Hauwa Liman, Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Women, Youth Engagement and Impact, and founder of the Inspire for Impact Initiative.
  • Following the summit, he met and interacted with the 3MTT community based in Katsina. Many of them shared experiences about their learning journey and how the programme has provided them a steady footing as they explore the dynamic world of technology and innovation.
