#WeekInReview: Full Week Recap of Activities of the Honourable Minister, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani (Vol. 113)

Bosun Tijani X EU- 3MTT Scale Up Implementation Meeting

INTRO

This work week the Honourable Minister focused on building on the strong foundations he has laid over the past two years in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy. Throughout the week, he prioritised strategic engagements that deepen collaboration with the private sector, traditional institutions, development partners, and sister government agencies, while keeping a clear focus on innovation-led growth, skills development, and positioning technology as a critical enabler of our ambition to build a $1 trillion economy.

 

TIMELINE

Monday, January 19 – Strengthening private sector collaboration

  • The Honourable Minister’s work week started in Lagos where he met with the MD/CEO of Fidelity Bank, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe to discuss our Ministry’s initiatives and identify possible areas of collaboration with the Bank.
  • Later in the day he undertook a facility tour of the Oshodi Transport Interchange to assess its suitability for a Digital Services Hub under the Ministry’s Nigeria Talent Cities Initiative. The hub will provide high-value employment for young Nigerians trained through our 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, alongside technology research and innovation activities that strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global digital economy.

 

Tuesday, January 20 – Shaping Africa’s AI future

  • On Tuesday, Dr. Tijani virtually attended the inaugural meeting of the Smart Africa AI Council. The Council will provide strategic, actionable recommendations that will propel Africa toward a future where AI is accessible to all, responsibly deployed, and truly benefits Africans.

 

Thursday, January 22 – Deepening partnerships and national alignment 

  • The Honourable Minister received in his office, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III. The royal father commended our Ministry’s initiatives and their positive impact on the people, even as he prayed for God to strengthen the Honourable Minister and his team to achieve even more. 
  • Following the Royal Father’s visit, Dr. Tijani hosted representatives of telecommunications company, Ntel led by its ND/CEO, Soji Maurice-Diya. The team briefed the Honourable Minister on their ongoing investments in digital infrastructure for improved service delivery. He later met with Chalya Shagaya, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Entrepreneurship Development (Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy), to deepen collaboration and further align on plans aimed at transforming Nigeria into a $1trillion economy by year 2030.

Dr. Tijani’s activities this week advanced his commitment to positioning innovation and digital talent as key drivers of economic growth. From exploring the establishment of a Digital Services Hub under the Nigeria Talent Cities Initiative, to scaling the 3MTT programme through international partnerships and strengthening digitally enabled education infrastructure, these efforts reflect his strategy to translate skills, innovation, and collaboration into sustainable economic value and shared prosperity.

Friday, January 23 – Advancing skills, education, and international cooperation 

  • On Friday, Dr. Tijani received the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arch. Sonny Echono in his office where they agreed to work together to deliver on mutual objectives, particularly as education infrastructures progressively move from physical to online. A key part of their objectives is to ensure that Nigerian universities are well-connected using technology as an enabler. 
  • He later chaired a meeting with representatives of the European Union (EU), Denmark, GIZ, and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), to advance planning for the EU-3MTT Scale-Up Programme. The EU support – which forms part of their broader €45million Digital Economy Package for Nigeria – will strengthen the 3MTT programme delivery systems, learning infrastructure, and post-training pathways.
