Back to About Us > Project BRIDGE Secures $100 Million from EBRD and €22 Million EU Grant to Accelerate Nationwide Fibre Rollout
The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, today announced the formal approval of a $100 million investment from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Project BRIDGE, Nigeria’s flagship broadband expansion initiative. The approval comes as the Minister embarks on a strategic European Investment Tour aimed at mobilising global capital and partnerships to accelerate Nigeria’s digital infrastructure ambitions.
The EBRD investment adds to the already secured $500 million financing from the World Bank Group, reinforcing strong international confidence in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. Project BRIDGE is designed to deploy 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable infrastructure across the country, significantly expanding broadband access, strengthening digital resilience, and unlocking economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians.
“These approvals are deeply reassuring as we reflect on the hard work and the air miles, across six countries in two weeks, to secure the partnerships required to deploy 90,000km of fibre across Nigeria, delivering meaningful connectivity to all Nigerians,” said Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy.
Earlier in the week, the Federal Government also announced the approval of a €22 million grant dedicated to Project BRIDGE, €18 million to advance Digital Public Services, and €5 million to support the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Nigeria Programme. This is part of the European Union’s €45 million Digital Economy Package targeted at holistic investment in infrastructure, digital government modernisation, and talent development.
Together, these commitments mark a major milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward universal, reliable, and affordable connectivity. The investments reflect growing global recognition of Nigeria’s reform efforts led by H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the strategic importance of digital infrastructure as a foundation for inclusive economic growth and national productivity.
