Nigeria Advances Digital Inclusion through Integrated Electrification and Connectivity Convening

Flagship Nigeria Convening

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE), in collaboration with the Partnership for Digital Access in Africa (PDAA), recently convened public and private sector leaders in Abuja for the ‘Flagship Nigeria: Electrification + Connectivity Site Visit & Convening‘, aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s digital inclusion agenda through integrated investments in electricity, connectivity, affordable devices, and digital skills.

The convening brings together senior government officials, development finance institutions, private sector partners, and philanthropic organisations to align on scalable solutions that empower local communities to address real challenges in areas such as agriculture and health, while expanding access to digital opportunities nationwide.

Speaking at the opening session of the convening, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani said:

“Digital inclusion is not just about connectivity; it is about ensuring that Nigerians have the power, devices, skills, and support needed to meaningfully participate in the digital economy. Through initiatives like Flagship Nigeria and programmes such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT), we are deliberately integrating electricity, affordable connectivity, and upskilling to ensure no community is left behind.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, Chief Executive Officer of the Partnership for Digital Access in Africa (PDAA), said:

“At PDAA we believe electricity must be treated as foundational digital infrastructure, devices must be affordable at scale, skills must be relevant to livelihood, and progress must be measured rigorously.

“This is why Flagship Nigeria is about moving from panel to system, and from announcement to delivery. Our collaborations with these stakeholders focus on last mile communities, blending public and private capital and measuring outcomes that matter. Our shared ambition between the Ministry, PDAA and all the partners present is to agree on a concrete pilot programme that can move into implementation.”

Outcomes from the convening will inform next steps toward expanding access to affordable digital services, strengthening public-private collaboration, and advancing Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Digital inclusion is not just about connectivity; it is about ensuring that Nigerians have the power, devices, skills, and support needed to meaningfully participate in the digital economy. Through initiatives like Flagship Nigeria and programmes such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT), we are deliberately integrating electricity, affordable connectivity, and upskilling to ensure no community is left behind.
