Back to About Us > Honourable Minister, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani Hosted by Ogun Tech Community; Announces Scholarship Programme for Selected Top-Performing Students in the State
In a display of support and engagement with the tech ecosystem in Ogun State, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, received a warm welcome by the Ogun Tech Community in Abeokuta, the State capital. The visit underscored his commitment to fostering innovation and empowering young Nigerians to thrive in the digital economy.
At the event, Dr. Tijani commended the tech community for its pivotal role in driving technological advancement and innovation in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole. He emphasised the significance of leveraging technology as a tool for national development, noting that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is keen on creating a conducive environment for tech entrepreneurs and startups to flourish.
“Every generation gets an opportunity to either be part of the problem or the solution. We, however, have a unique opportunity to be part of the solution—to take care of the age-long challenges that has faced our nation,” said Honourable Minister, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani. “This is because we are the generation that God has given access to technology at a level that humanity has never seen before. It’s the first time when—if we invest in connectivity—we can start to leapfrog how we do things. And it’s the first time that the workforce of the future is projected to be from Africa. In-fact, in a few years, the bulk of the workforce of the future will be from our continent.”
As part of his visit to Abeokuta, the Honourable Minister also made a nostalgic return to his alma mater, Anglican High School, located at Quarry Road in Abeokuta. Addressing the students, he emphasised the importance of hard work, kindness, and empathy—values he credited for shaping his personal and professional journey.
To further inspire academic excellence, Dr. Tijani announced the launch of a scholarship programme targeted at top-performing students of the school. The initiative is aimed at encouraging academic excellence and ensuring that talented students have access to quality education regardless of their financial background.
The Honourable Minister unveiled a N100,000 scholarship, with a laptop each for three (3) top-performing students at all levels of the Junior Secondary Class (JSS) 1 to 3 and four (4) Senior Secondary students in SSS 1 and 2 classes. Additionally, Dr. Tijani adopted a building and the science laboratory within the school premises, pledging to fully renovate and equip the facilities for the benefit of the students. The gesture, he noted, is in line with his commitment to creating learning environments that foster innovation, creativity, and critical thinking.
The visit to his alma mater also provided an opportunity for the Honourable Minister to reconnect with fellow alumni, who offered him a warm reception. Reflecting on the impact of his formative years, he reiterated the need to give back to institutions that played pivotal roles in shaping future leaders.
Dr. Tijani’s visit to Ogun State reflects his resolve to bridge the gap between policy formulation and grassroots engagement, ensuring that the benefits of the digital economy reach every corner of the country.
