The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy yesterday hosted the first edition of Built on Nigeria’s Postcode, a virtual pitch series designed to connect innovators building on Nigeria’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System with potential customers, investors, institutional partners and public-sector adopters.

The inaugural session brought together the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani; the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Engr. Tola Odeyemi; and leaders from government, technology, logistics, financial services and investment to explore practical applications of the national digital postcode infrastructure.

Five companies presented innovative solutions demonstrating how the postcode system could support new products and services across different sectors of the economy. The session provided an opportunity for the builders to demonstrate their solutions, receive feedback from the conveners and industry leaders, and explore pathways towards adoption and real-world deployment.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister described the session as a significant moment in the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy by providing the infrastructure and platforms on which innovators and enterprises can build.

He explained that the government’s digital economy strategy recognises the importance of foundational digital infrastructure and interoperable technology systems that connect government, businesses and citizens, enabling the creation of new services and economic value.

Dr. Tijani highlighted the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System as an important national asset that addresses a critical layer of digital identification: the ability to reliably identify locations and properties.

“The alphanumeric postcode is an important asset for our digital economy. Just as we have seen the value that systems such as NIBSS and the National Identification Number have brought to our society, an open and interoperable postcode system has the potential to create similar opportunities by enabling innovators to identify locations, develop new services and build value across the economy.

“Government has a responsibility to provide the foundational infrastructure and technology platforms that enable innovation. The exciting next step is for businesses and public institutions to integrate this postcode into our everyday experiences. When government opens the doors for these innovations to be adopted, we create opportunities for customers, partners and investors to support the businesses building on them.”

The Honourable Minister emphasised that the objective of the pitch series extends beyond the presentation of ideas. It is intended to connect promising solutions with organisations willing to become early adopters, customers, partners and investors.

He also encouraged participants to recognise the role that collaboration between government and the private sector can play in translating digital infrastructure into practical applications that strengthen productivity, economic participation and shared prosperity.

The inaugural session featured contributions from leaders representing organisations including the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), TradeDepot, Dojah, Prembly, TLcom Capital, Jumia Nigeria, Flutterwave, Youverify, Paga and Bolt.

Their participation reflected the relevance of reliable location identification across sectors and the importance of bringing prospective users of the postcode system into conversations with the innovators developing solutions around it.

The Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Engr. Tola Odeyemi, reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between NIPOST, technology companies and public- and private-sector institutions in translating the postcode infrastructure into solutions that meet practical needs.

“The National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System creates an important opportunity for innovators and institutions to build solutions that respond to real-world needs. Through Built on Nigeria’s Postcode, we are bringing together the people developing these solutions and the organisations that can adopt, support and scale them. Our focus is on encouraging practical applications, building strong partnerships and ensuring that the postcode becomes a useful part of everyday services across Nigeria.”

The Ministry and NIPOST will continue to engage innovators and prospective adopters through subsequent sessions of the series, creating opportunities for further demonstrations, feedback and collaboration.

The first session featured presentations from five builders showcasing solutions developed around the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System.

The participating builders and their solutions are listed below:

  • Junaid Babatunde – Topship Africa – Topship, a cross-border logistics that pins the delivery point to a postcode so a parcel arrives first time
  • Temitope Amosa – Team Ọ̀nà – Ọ̀nà turns a customer’s location into a verified postcode with access notes, so deliveries stop failing
  • Engr. Akolade Maruf Ibrahim – Buildocrat Property Technologies Ltd – Nigeria Land Value Book, a free indicative land, building and rental value for any spot, pinned to its postcode
  • Ehigiator Akhile – Hospify – Hospify, a Safety ID built on the postcode, so an SOS or Amber alert names the exact building
  • Kayode Alade – Electra – Electra turns real-time energy and location data into operational and market intelligence, helping power providers and regulators run their systems efficiently

Following the successful inaugural session, Built on Nigeria’s Postcode will continue with two additional sessions scheduled for November 2026.

The upcoming sessions are:

  • Session Two: Saturday, 7 November 2026, at 12:00 noon West Africa Time (WAT).
  • Session Three: Saturday, 21 November 2026, at 12:00 noon West Africa Time (WAT).
