Back to About Us > Honourable Minister, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani Commissions Vandalised NCC Digital Industrial Park in Kano
The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, today commissioned the renovated Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Digital Industrial Park in Kano State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive digital growth and youth empowerment across Nigeria.
The facility, which had been vandalised during a protest in August last year, has now been fully restored through the efforts of the NCC and key partners such as IHS Nigeria, a telecom infrastructure service provider company.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tijani recalled the vandalisation, and how the sad incident only strengthened his resolve to renovate the structure and re-equip it with the support of IHS Nigeria. According to the Honourable Minister: “For any society to develop, government must partner with private sector players to achieve sustainable development.”
He restated the importance of ensuring that young Nigerians — regardless of their location — have access to resources needed to thrive in the innovation economy. He went further to implore all stakeholders to ensure that the Digital Industrial Park facility is well protected. “By protecting this centre, we are protecting a platform for our young people to build the society we all dream of,” said Dr. Tijani.
The NCC Digital Industrial Park will serve as a hub for digital creativity, skills development, and entrepreneurship, particularly for young people and participants of the Ministry’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. Kano State ranked highest in the number of registrations for the 3MTT programme nationwide with over 180,000 applications. The Honourable Minister assured the public that the Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy will continue to support these young talents with infrastructure, connectivity, and opportunities for personal development.
In his remarks, the Governor of Kano State, H.E Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented at the commissioning event by his Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, commended Dr. Tijani’s determination to ensure that the Industrial Park is re-equipped and ready for commissioning within a space of 10 months.
“Developing the digital economy is a critical imperative for growth, and the more facilities you have, the more access you have to diverse opportunities globally,” said Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam. “The Digital Industrial Park that is being commissioned today will expose our youth to internet facilities that will enable them connect with the rest of the world and realise their full potentials.”
